Poster Redesign for Larissa Fasthorse’s “The Thanksgiving Play”

Final Project for Harvard and the Puritans in Native America

Goal: Create a promotional play poster for The Thanksgiving Play centering 1920s aesthetics by blending its promotional nature with 20s-era pageant celebrations of the tercentennial arrival of the Pilgrims to Plymouth Rock.

Marrying the aesthetics of modern-day satire and historical reenactment allowed me to visually emphasize common themes that have inspired continued participation in Thanksgiving plays from the 1920s to today: their dramatic form, their supposed efficacy as educational tools, and their accessibility to children. Because of this, I designed this poster to be wildly dynamic and satirical in tone.

To capture the 1920s, I modeled my art style after art deco posters and covers of The Theatre Magazine.
